This enormous antique black umbrella dates to the Edwardian era with a dramatic, bat wing-like canopy that looks right out of an Edward Gorey illustration. (Gashlycrumb Tinies, anyone?) I thought for sure this must be a parasol, as it’s made of cotton, but learned that the density of the weave is what makes it water repellant. I’m not sure that means this is waterPROOF: If I were keeping it, I would use it for shade from the sun. It’s quite roomy: The canopy measures 38” in diameter. From the tip to the bottom of the handle, it stands 42” tall. Condition is excellent with some minor fading and one or two really miniscule pinholes.
